what could ancient Yogi’s possibly tell us about diet and bodily health welcome to the science of yoga part 4 well through diligent observations they had deep insights into our inner workings so let’s take a look at what they found they posited that in all of our bodies there exists a fire a transformative power called Agni and whatever we eat goes through our system and gets consumed by Agni Agni breaks it down and transforms the food into a finer substance called ojas that can then be used to build up the body but this only happens to the extent the food you eat is pure when impure or harmful food is consumed it’s slightly different the fire or Agni struggles and has to work harder to break it down it can only produce a small amount of ojas and an additional substance called Amma Amma being on tapped food is not good news according to Ayurveda hammer is a big reason for all of our health problems it essentially clogs the body up and blocks the flow of prana deep tissues nerve channels and major organs are places Amma can end up being deposited but one place it finds it really easy to hide in his fat cells are finds it easy to stay in body fat and Western science in parallel has found that body fat can Harbor toxins Amma creates a biochemical environment in the body that breathes errant emotions in the previous video we used the analogy of a dopamine monster well they love these kind of conditions and deposit themselves in several parts of the body they also stimulate cravings for further junk food so the whole thing can South propagate and grow it can become a vicious cycle clearly food and emotional state are profoundly connected the fire will try its best to burn up Amer and given enough time it will do it but if it’s consistently bombarded with the wrong kind of diet it will get exhausted the fire will get weaker and weaker one primary way to reverse it is to change the diet and give the fire of agni time to restore itself to full health so we mentioned that the quality of foods affects Agni greatly well the Yogi’s divided food into three groups sattva Rajas and Tamas sattvic is the most conducive to yogic and bodily balance but in today’s society it’s a challenge to not fall into Temasek food fast food and ready-made stuff fall into this category they all damage the fire ultimately our bodily intuition will know what category of food falls into and will guide us so here are several things that the Yogi’s found affect Agni tamasic food creates Amma which can overburden the fire eating too much food in general overburdens the fire eating too little can cause the fire to dwindle and weaken wrong posture while eating can compromise the fire working properly probiotic foods are said to strengthen Agni wrong food combinations can do the same so you have to experiment to be sure it’s possible that for some grains are unhealthy and can overburden the system see the Chinese big ood diet all of these can create the aforementioned conditions often the bodily intelligence will inform us as to the effect of a food we call this precious faculty instinct have you ever seen an overweight cow a depressed rhino no these creatures are running on instinct and are largely free of emotional input it’s only humans that have emotional cravings so as well as our natural instinct as to what is good and healthy we also have this figurative monster which craves what it desires people say their eating disorders seem to be run by demons in a sense that’s probably true but the more we can break this bond we will naturally invigorate the fire of Agni and the inner conditions would be more conducive to a yogic state of mind subscribe to info Nausicaa to get regular updates to enlighten you and your family join our community while you’re here until next time Padawans

  21. One more common saying, you feel what you eat. (Jaisa anna, waisa man). Your State of mind changes based on what you eat. Red meat will make you aggressive, fruits will calm. And so on.

Human body is an accumulation of five elements space air fire water and earth which gives rise to 3 dosha ie vata pitta kapha which is composed of six tastes sweet sour salty pungent bitter astringent in this sour salt pungent increases pitta which has agni in it so taste influences hugely on the mind and body where vegetarian is satvik and non vegetarian is tamasic so so much is written in indian science long back thousands of years ago ☺

  29. Eggs are not Satvik they are Tamsik, if anyone's wondering. Video illustrated them incorrectly. Since ancient times indian Yogies have considered any non-vegetarian food Tamasik and food of Rakshasa and eggs are considered non-veg since ancient times.

    You cannot compare them with cow milk as they are just "taken" from chickens just like milk. It is like taking an undeveloped child out of mothers womb and consuming it. Milk doesn't develop and grow to be Cow, Goat or Human for that matter.

  31. The ancient Ayurvedic criteria for food to be considered Sattvic were foods were grown organically on good rich fertile soil. Sattvic food should be grown without pesticides, chemical fertilisers, sprays, insecticides,  hormones or anything unnatural. Are we getting such food? In Ancient times egg is considered to be non vegetarian. But now, there has been lot of controversy about it especially in western countries. Excellent Video. Good info

Animals can suffer of cancer and overweight .Try to feed a sheep corn or bread, she we'll go crazy for it, even if is making here sick. Its funny how we make philosophies about us thinking that we are so important, while we have no specific role or importance on this planet.

  38. Unfortunately everytime I go vegan, I get digestive issues. My bowel movement is great but I get bloating, heartburns, ibs. So now instead of following a diet because thats what everybody says to be healthy, I now listen to my body. I eat eggs in the morning and have noticed a huge improvment with my gut issues. I juice vegetables and eat less pork and chicken.

  51. I think a did fairly good job summerizing the prefered diet for yogis. Eating clean prevents detox effects during the asana practice, that's my experience anyway.

  73. I think you could have related the science to yoga more. A general "toxins" in fat doesn't really give people much help. The fire analogy is fined but failed to be related to the science. You could have mentioned the science of gut bacteria influencing our health and cravings. You could call those bacteria your monsters.

Sometimes it’s difficult to just listen to our bodies when it comes to food, and I’m struggling with an obsession for what I eat or what I should eat. But, yes, I know, I have to listen to my body.   84. Also animals can have emotional cravings. We had to leave first our pets behind when we moved from one country to another. In that year they were taking care of a cousin. Only one of our pets did not get along with the other pets in the house. So she kept our pets in her room. Now one of our cats has a weight problem and at nights miause a lot. She'd eat also our other cat's food. She doesn't like to be left alone. So, I'd say: pets can also have emotional cravings.
