People Try The Whole30 Elimination Diet

– It’s like I’ve swallowed a bowling ball. – For five minutes, I will feel like the most amazing I’ve ever felt. And then the next five
minutes, I will feel like a giant piece of shit. – I’m gonna (beep) crack. (laughs) (soft music) – [Narrator] The Whole30 is meant to be a short-term nutrition reset. For 30 days, participants cannot consume real or artificial added sugar, alcohol, grains, legumes, dairy,
or additives, such as MSG. Commonly reported benefits of the program include higher energy and
more mental focus and clarity. – Today we embark on
the Whole30 challenge. I’m so excited. (laughs) – I know the premise is
pretty much whole foods. Like fresh things, real things. – I feel like Whole30 is
just going to really push me. – I’m half terrified. I’m the first person in the cookie jar. And the last. – I’ve been feeling like crap lately, and I think it’s just
because I’m eating like crap. It would be pretty cool
to know what it feels like to be a human running on clean nutrients. – I know that at the end
of it, people have said they feel more awake, they sleep better, their skin is better. Everything about their life is better. I want that part. But I know to get there, it’s going to be a whole lot of pain. (soft music) – [Everyone] Hi. – I’m so stoked for you. – Really? – Yes, at the end of it,
you’re going to feel so good. So, you’re going to sleep a lot better. It’ll be easier for you to fall asleep. And it’s longer.
– Why? Because we have no energy? – It’s called lightly dying. (laughing) – It’s like, you have these 30 days. See how you feel and then take the lessons that you learned from
it and apply it to life. I liked that part about
it because it’s not like, I’m Paleo, I can’t eat this forever. It’s like, no I’m doing this for 30 days. I’m going to see how it makes me feel and then I’ll decide if I want to put it back in my diet or not. They say if you’re hungry,
you’re doing it wrong. You should be feeding yourself enough. And if that means having three
to four eggs for breakfast, then that’s what you
need to do for your body. – I think of anything,
forcing yourself to read what’s in products as
well is so terrifying, that after awhile, you’re
like, I can’t believe I’ve been eating all
this shit for so long. – We’ll do that at the grocery store. We’ll see what’s actually in stuff. – Bananas, of course. – [Jazz] Don’t question me. (soft music) – I’ve never bought these
many vegetables ever at once. – We can have salt. I’m really excited for
my hard boiled eggs now. Yay. – It’s interesting we’ve
only used this part of the store so far. No one has gone into any of the shelves and processed foods yet. Because we can’t. – Bread, I’ll miss you. (soft music) – I just made breakfast, and now I think I’m going to be late for work. But here it is. – I’ve kind of been okay
with what’s going on. What I would normally eat,
I would eat only two eggs, but I was like, four, because I’m trying to stay as full as possible. – Realizing how versatile eggs are. You need a snack on the go? Egg city, man. – [Jared] Lunch on fleek. It’s not quite a tortilla, but
it’s kind of close I guess. – I’m only just done and I
immediately have to poop. – So I wake up and the first thing I was thinking was food, of course. And I’m about to boil four eggs today. – We’re at the farmer’s market. So health. – So health, vegetables. (crinkling) There’s free Indian food today and Indian food’s my favorite. – I had a really bad sleep and nightmares. (soft music) – I can’t believe it’s only been a week of Whole30 so far. – It has felt like 30 days. (laughs) This is shit. – My energy levels have kind
of been all over the place, just like my emotions. – I’ve had three food
nightmares in seven days. What the (beep)? – I am fitting into these
shorts a little bit better than I did last week, so that’s exciting. Here’s to two more weeks of this. Three, how many? No. I want it to be over. – Once you get past the first week hump, I would say it gets so much easier. There’s this thing called tiger blood that Whole30 people get, yes. So, you get this surge of energy where you feel like you can do everything. – Today was the first day that I woke up for my six AM workout. I honestly was feeling really
energized and really good. – It’s a beautiful, sunny day. And I’m out and about. Normally I’d be at my desk. – Niki and I made ghee the other day and it turned out amazing, and
it was a third the cost of what it was at the store. So, that was pretty dope. I’ve been explaining to
her how great ghee is, and she hasn’t been cooking
with it because it costs so much money at the store.
– So much. – [Jared] So, we’re going to try to make our own from scratch. It seems easy enough. – [Niki] It’s butter. It’s ghee. (gasps) – What’s it smell like? – Candy. – I feel like the main
way to be successful with this diet is preparing meals ahead, preparing ingredients ahead, and kind of making things yourself when you can, because it’ll be a lot cheaper than buying pre-made stuff at the store. – What I’m really liking about the Whole30 is that it’s forcing me
to start cooking again. Although I am obviously
shopping a lot more for food, I’ve saved a lot of money. I tend to drink when I go out. I tend to eat out a lot. – I think I’m struggling more mentally than I am physically, and
it’s kind of wearing me down. (upbeat music) (soft music) – I was on Facebook earlier and I saw this Goodful recipe for salmon
and potatoes and asparagus. It looked really good and
there’s no added sugar or anything, so it’s
totally Whole30 approved. Since I have to cook for
myself every day anyway, we might as well give it a go. Salt, pepper, thyme. Classic salmon friend. That looks great, I’m excited. Okay, let’s do it. (soft music) We make the glaze now. Oh no, I’m getting seeds. (soft music) Man, I miss bread. Nice Jared, you’re killing it. Bye salmon, good luck. (ticking) Oh my god, those potatoes look bomb. It’s a little hot. It’s a lot of food. This will last me at
least two to three meals, which that’s pretty dope. I’m so proud. I mean, I put it on a pan and I cooked it and it didn’t die, so. – Alls I (beep) want
is chocolate and bread. I’m gonna crack. – [Lindsay] I’m having chocolate almonds. – Get out of here, Lindsay. Get out of here. – [Lindsay] Don’t get your gross almonds in my chocolate almonds. – Temptation is everywhere. I just took my car into the shop and they offered me donuts and candy. I was not expecting that and it really caught me off guard. (soft music) – I feel like I haven’t complained much, but I’m definitely going to now. This is a giant cookie. (laughs) – I just ate lunch and I just want to eat french fries and chicken nuggets. – Almost impossible
for me to get work done because all I can do is think about bagels and donuts and corn. – Today my team is going
to Universal for the day. This is going to be a
struggle to find food. – We just had a big steak dinner. We decided to go on an evening walk. I feel really good actually. – Me too. – So first day back on my
stationary bike since we started this whole thing. I have so much energy. – I know different diets are
good for different people. I wish I could say that I
felt 100% better, but I don’t. – Nice, healthy lunch. I’m really hungry today. (soft music) – Yesterday was a really
tough workout with Jill. Last week I could barely
move up and down stairs and today, that’s not the case, so I guess that’s progress. (soft music) – So, it’s been a week since the Whole30 challenge has been over. – When it ended, I had put so much hope onto Day 31, that I honestly didn’t know what to do with myself. I ordered all the stuff
that I wanted to eat that was gluten and dairy and rice. And then my body felt like (beep). – At the beginning of this experience, I was super excited to cook every day, and I was having a really good time experimenting in the kitchen. I just got so tired of it. – I think it was nice
to try something new, and to see how much I could handle. And that obviously wasn’t a lot. – Often these challenges are a choice. I saved all of my money by not drinking and not eating outrageous meals and it was a few hundred dollars. – So, Whole30 is supposed
to make you rethink your relationship to food,
and I think it did do that, in terms of how I consume
food, how I should be consuming whole foods
and cooking for myself and prepping for myself,
and thinking really critically about what I put into my body. That’s something that I don’t
think is going to go away, so I’m going to continue doing that. – I am going to go have a
beer and a tequila shot. (soft music)

  32. None of these people have families to support. I would be very interested to see people with a spouse and kids try this diet. I'm seriously considering this diet, but if I didn't eat something my wife cooked, she would be PISSED.

  33. 6:42"Oh ma gawd tHoSe poTAtoEs loOK boMb!"

  34. Okay, maybe I'm missing something but this "diet" is how I eat every day – not because I have to but that's just normal eating. I mean, that salmon dish is a staple for dinnertime in my house. How poor is their diet that this is a difficult challenge??

  35. I love how they think blurring out her middle finger will make it ok like lol

  36. We’re not gonna talk about how cute Jazzmyne’s “Misogny is not cute” shirt is

  37. I feel really triggered seeing how much they depend on junk food! They needed this whole30 in their life. I love junk food too but I've not eaten it in more than 3 months and I've not cracked once. They should really appreciate whole foods more.

  38. Yeah, we can all agree their job's food options were toxic as hell for what they captured on camera. Obviously it's a ChOICE..but u can't beat that type of sugary temptations. They def need to improve on that.

  39. I think you guys should just make your workplace healthier. No one would have as much problems to do these diets.

  40. Bunch of drunks

  41. What’s the difference between this and keto?

  42. You're supposed to diet plan and meal prep to last an entire week of eating. Otherwise you will get mentally burned out. Duh.

  43. Jazz you look so good! (As always 😉)

    ♥️

  44. I figured it out, beet chips/other veggie chips with guacamole

  45. Sweet potato fries carrot fries guacamole fruit smoothies honey so many good thingsss

  46. That would be a easy diet for me cause I’m allergic to msg

  47. It would only be hard for me to give up chips & iced coffees..I’m not a big sugar eater anyways

  48. Why blur the middle finger lmao we can see it.

  49. Pretty pathetic video

  50. All that cholesterol from the eggs :/

  51. Why can’t they eat rice or legumes?

  52. ok well maybe its just an european thing but thats just a normal diet nothing that special about eating veggies and eggs jesus

  53. Why was everyone that did the diet in this vid is either gay or lesbian

  54. For me it was seeing that sugar was in EVERYTHING. I think the issue with Whole30 in the beginning is kicking the sugar. Annd you guys did it wrong lol…you're supposed to reintroduce foods slowly and by item and not at the same time to see how they react to your body. The whole point of Whole30 is to reduce inflammation…that's why they cut out the food items they do, they are generally the most likely to cause digestion and inflammation.

  55. “I put it on a pan and it didn’t die”

    Mood

  56. would be nice if buzzfeed would ever use an actual REGISTERED DIETITIAN in one of these fucking videos. ugh.

  57. 2:04
Yeah that’s basically what it’s like to have dietary restrictions lol

  58. 72 hour water fast will get the same benefits

  59. Been naturally doing this on a keto diet lmao

  60. ima pounce at the creator of this diet. Why are legumes restricted??? wtf legumes are as whole as you can get. hope no one watches this and thinks its a good idea. Eat real food and junk in moderation and live your life.

  61. Am i the only one who does this everyday?

  62. If I follow this diet it would make me lose muscle and get skinny fat.No thanks

  63. All these 4 people are gay 🤭

  64. I wanna look like a snack but can't stop eating them 🙁

  65. self advertisement

  66. WHITE potatoes are NOT allowed on Whole30, ONLY sweet potato. You need to read the list of allowed foods. If you are eating white potato you failed and need to start it over.

  67. Lmao literally everyone in this video is gay

  68. God that fat black girl always seems to keep me cringing. But that’s buzzfeed for ya!

  69. Not cool, before I watched this, it played an ad for Magnum ice cream with the hard chocolate top you crack through…tryna set me up for failure, psh >:(

  70. The thing with processed food is that to a lot of people it doesn’t taste that good, the saltiness is addicting.

  71. The main point of whole30 is the reintroduction faze, which they completely skipped. No wonder she felt so bad after eating junk food on day 31

  72. So making your own fries is good?

  73. This is easy.

  74. Uh they missed the whole point of Whole 30 with the reintroduction of everything all at once

  75. Tan just leave buzzfeed ur literally useless to this after the man spreading ur just an embarrassment

  76. Hard to take the host for real when she tries so hard to sound like the Cardushians

  77. Yeah it’s fantastic! Technically you will be f*ck!

  78. Black people can complain so fucking much

  79. yep. Too well bred to the American Diet. Fast foods, junk, etc. Only one smart one in the video. LOL Good look at their thoughts. I commend that.

  80. What a disappointment. You guys barely talked about how the diet actually physically affected you. Why did I even watch this ? Honestly !!!

  81. None focus on what they could eat. You are eating real food and not junk. The book It Starts With Food is filled with science and what we put our bodies through. And no, it is not 30 days as a diet. It is to see how you react to things and changing how you eat for life.

  82. Who here is doing the diet like me right now? 😤😂

  83. Two majoy fails in this video. No re-introduction like whole30 suggests. No before and afters. I know it's not about the weigh ins or inches lost, but that's usually the most satisfying thing to hear about after the improved energy / changed perspectives on food. Most of them gave a very half-assed vibe about going through it. Maybe buzzfeed is wearing them out.

  84. laughs in digestive disease YOU THINK YOU HAVE IT BAD??

  85. Why did no one recap properly about their experience? Did the energy boost last? Has anyones digestion improved? Skin? Energy? This video is worthless

  86. Hard liquor doesn't even have calories how tf it was excluded

  87. Typical SJW millennials: full of complaints and devoid of discipline.

  88. 90. This is the women’s Nofap challenge

  91. Why cancel grains and legumes? They healthy asf

  92. a healthy diet is not to much sugar and not to much green you have to balance between them

  93. I don't know why people make Whole30 seem like the world is ending. Of course it's not easy but you can eat out, get a salad and get the dressing on the side, ask them to remove cheese. There are so many restaurants that are organic, clean etc.

  94. I think? these people? used up? the entire? United States? budget of? question marks? for an? entire year????????

  95. they are all gay people for some reason hahah

  96. 7:26 haha 😂

  97. Did they really just censor a middle finger? 🙄

  98. Eggs are so bad for you! Buzzfeed has had so many weird egg-promoting videos. Does someone in the egg industry sponsor you?

  99. For real… complaining about bettering yourself is incredibly annoying. And if you're craving foods that are bad for you, that's a food addiction. Call it what it is.

  100. You can eat bacon
