Message from Dr. Ocaranza, City/County Health Authority

Good evening El Paso, today in
response to the presence of COVID-19 in our community, the City has approved to
close all bars, lounges, taverns, arcades and private clubs effective today March
17 2020 starting at 8 p.m. (correction: effective immediately) and continuing until April 6 2020. Restaurant
occupancy and table capacities will be directed to 50% occupancy. What does that mean? That if you have an occupancy of a hundred people the restaurant occupancy will now be 50 people. Prevention screening actions will
also need to be taken care. Business owners please visit to learn more about the new temporary measures. Additionally, large gatherings
have been suspended as well as special programming at our quality of life
facilities. Senior centers and Pre-K and daycare facilities are currently closed.
The city has also suspended all non-essential travel of our employees
and developed a telecommuting policy while testing has been done throughout
the entire County of El Paso including Fort Bliss, we want to remind people that
the best defense we have against COVID-19 is prevention. At this time we have 800
test kits, 30 individuals have been tested and we have three cases
reported in the El Paso County. No cases have been reported inside of Fort Bliss. You can avoid infection by washing your hands continuously, coughing into your
elbow, avoiding handshakes, hugs and kisses and staying home, if possible.
Please practice social distancing and remember just because you belong to
specific age range that is at low risk doesn’t mean that you don’t spread the
disease to other individuals to whom COVID-19 could pose a higher risk, such as people over 60 years old or serious underlying health conditions such as
significant heart or lung problem. If you happened to feel symptoms of COVID-19 like shortness of breath, fever, and
coughing, please contact
your health care provider. We’re all in this together El Paso. We are El
Paso strong and we will make it through it just the same, but together
