AIRMAN COMPREHENSIVE FITNESS—JUST LIFT SOME WEIGHTS, RUN A FEW LAPS AND YOU’RE GOOD TO GO, RIGHT? WELL, THE’RES A LITTLE BIT MORE TO IT THAN THAT. BUT DON’T WORR I’VE GOT THE STUFF YOU NEED TO KNOW. HI! I’M STAFF SERGEANT HOLLY ROBERTS-DAVIS AND THIS IS FYI. MAINTAINING YOUR PHYSICAL FITNESS IS AN IMPORTANT ASPECT OF BEING AN AIRMAN-NOT JUST BECAUSE YOU NEED TO PASS YOUR ANNUAL PT TEST, BUT
BECAUSE BEING PHYSICALLY FIT ALLOWS YOU TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE MISSION WITH SIMPLE THINGS LIKE CARRYING GEAR, STAYING HEALTHY, OR IN THE EVENT SOMETHING SHOULD GO WRONG, BEING ABLE TO TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF AND YOUR WINGMEN. HOWEVER, YOUR PHYSICAL FITNESS ISN’T THE ONLY FITNESS YOU SHOULD BE CONCERNED ABOUT. COMPREHENSIVE AIRMAN FITNESS IS COMPRISED OF A TON OF TARGETED PROGRAMS AND ACTIVITIES AS WELL AS RESILIENCY SKILLS TAUGHT TO HELP AIRMEN MAKE SOUND CHOICES. AND SOUND CHOICES GENERALLY WORK OUT BETTER THAN THOSE OTHER KINDS OF CHOICES WE TEND TO MAKE WHEN WE AREN’T TAKING CARE OF OURSELVES. THE GOAL OF COMPREHENSIVE FITNESS IS TO BUILD AND SUSTAIN A THRIVING AND RESILIENT AIR FORCE COMMUNITY THAT FOSTERS MENTAL, PHYSICAL, SOCIAL AND SPIRITUAL FITNESS THROUGH CROSS-FUNCTIONAL EDUCATION ACTIVITIES AND PROGRAMS SUCH AS MENTAL AND PHYSICAL WELLNESS, SOCIAL ACTIVITIES, FAMILY, PEER AND MENTOR SUPPORT, AND SPIRITUAL HEALTH. DID YOU GET ALL THAT?… BASICALLY, IT COMES DOWN TO THE AIR FORCE TAKING CARE OF AIRMEN IN ALL FACETS, ENSURING THEY ARE FIT TO FIGHT ACROSS THE BOARD BUT BY ACTUALLY OFFERING CLASSES AND INFORMATION ON VALUABLE LIFE SKILLS. ONE OF THE BIGGEST PROGRAMS WITHIN COMPREHENSIVE AIRMEN FITNESS IS THE MASTER RESILIENCY TRAINING. THE IDEA IS TO HAVE A MASTER RESILIENCY TRAINER FOR EVERY 200 AIRMEN-MEANING THE TRAINERS WILL BE ABLE TO WORK CLOSELY WITH AIRMEN ON THEIR RESILIENCY SKILLS AND MAINTAINING A WELL-BALANCED LIFESTYLE. THERE IS ALSO THE DEVELOPMENT OF LEADERSHIP PATHWAYS. THIS PROGRAM ENCOURAGES SUPERVISORS AND MENTORS TO PROACTIVELY SEEK EDUCATION SO THEY ARE BETTER PREPARED TO HELP THEIR TROOPS AND PEERS DEAL WITH LIFE ISSUES. EDUCATIONAL TOPICS OR CLASSES CAN INCLUDE SUBJECTS LIKE , NAVIGATING ELECTRONIC RELATIONSHIPS, ANGER MANAGEMENT, HOW TO AVOID MARRYING A JERK, STRESS MANAGEMENT, PARENTING CLASSES, AND EVEN HOW TO RUN A SMALL BUSINESS. LEADERSHIP HAS ALREADY DISTRIBUTED FUNDS ACROSS THE TOTAL FORCE TO HELP WITH WINGMAN DAYS, RESILIENCY EVENTS, AND SPECIAL PROJECTS.
